I’ve been wanting to show the Guinoids (Penguin folk) for quite a while now, their creation was first hinted at in page 37 of Book 1.

This is also the first time anyone in the Avbaroy continuity has shown anything or anyone from Lockutas, which I enjoyed designing.

The Lockutan soldiers were partially inspired by the Big Daddies of Bioshock fame, I’ll leave it to you all to figure out what is behind the flagbearer.

I did mention this wouldn’t end well, didn’t I?

I realise the last frame may not seem so devastating. After all, it’s snowing, the trees aren’t in bloom, and there’s a bit of the wall left over after a year.

But obviously what you don’t know is:

Those trees aren’t “out of bloom”.

And it isn’t winter in Arcania.

This will certainly not end well…

My favourite part of course is the little sparks coming off of Rain’s shoes as she’s shoved infront of the council to stall while Igon goes off to chat with Akosimoa.

So college started back up this week and so far everything is going fairly swimmingly. I think I’ve got more than enough time to make 2 comics/week, so the only issue now is paying for bandwidth.

Nudge nudge wink wink.

In the very first handful of comics, we learned quite a bit about Rain and Igon.

We learned that Igon was studious and loyal, and the son of a counsellor.

We learned similarly that Rain is less studious, more fun-loving, and the daughter of another counsellor and an absentee mother (From whom she gets many of her poorer traits).

But we have learned little to nothing about Azul Bufon in almost the same period of time.

Guess that isn’t changing.

And he likes it that way.

And now a skip I don’t intend to flesh out much (Mostly because I know very little about diplomatic meetings).

It perhaps tells a little bit on why I like to read spoilers, because I get to see them all unfold as part of a mythology.

Such as here we have someone that’s been oft-mentioned in the past but that we’ve never met or even seen.

Quite literally, Igon, Rain, and Azul all owe Akosimoa their lives.

And here she is a bit of a nervous wreck on meeting Igon. :D

There’s another symptom of me trying to put more humour here, in the form of the water-cooler-chat.

Or, more accurately, the water-cooler bubbles.

A bit of a skip ahead, but not far (And I fully intend to flesh the skip out in the published version). Igon is now negotiating for aid with the Erenatl council.

Originally I considered having nine counsellors, rather than the seven shown here, but it proved too tricky to fit nine into a frame without reducing the size massively.

Four unique Grisgol still look pretty cool though. I tried to think of individual personalities when I made them.

For example the far right (viewer’s) side Grisgol is a conservative counsellor, but she loves high-performance things, so she spotted the classic-model Grisgol shell and just “had” to have it.

Greatwise’s matching paint scratches are kind funny to me, since they look like fuzzy eyebrows :P

They’re the result of his head being whacked back and forth in combat (the eyebrows) and grabbed on both sides (the triangular peels)

Ok, I’ll admit this was largely a chance for me to completely geek out at my own material. It turned out nicely though.

The hardest part, perhaps, was deciding the most “humane” method of euthanising the participant. I considered a number of options but I eventually settled on Carbon Di/Monoxide poisoning.

In this instance, the CO is created by the stove in a sealed environment, less oxygen means more CO (And also suffocation for the participant). CO2 is made by the block of (dry) ice above the stove, which melts as the process goes on.

Thinking up the most inappropriate background music for that frame was also fun. Daft Punk certainly worked out as a good choice.

I tried to make a joke in most of the frames, since the material is pretty dry, can you tell where I ran out of them? :P

And as they say: Power corrupts, economically-available power corrupts economically.

ABR fans will probably recognise Attarisen here, just as they did Akosimoa. That said, he’s quite a bit different to how they’re used to seeing him, he has eyes for one.

Now a lot of the motivations for the Erenatl are religious or economic, but one of their bigger issues is politics, because you have the two warring sides of human and Grisgol.

Here we see Attarisen is pretty up-to-date with his politics, and he clearly isn’t very happy with them.

So lately things have been pretty dull around here. The weather is fairly constistent and I’m getting all the work I need done finished and I’m just plain bored most of the day. That said, I’m getting back into old habits of playing Starcraft for hours. Not necessarily a good sign.

This’d be a lot easier to survive if I was actually getting paid. My brother starts paying rent in a month but alas that isn’t to me.
