Is “squeel” the British spelling of the Americanized(read: bastardized) “squeal?” (likewise practise/ice)
This should not be bugging me as such, but I have to reassure myself that Lying is a Chessmaster and would not make such an elementary mistake.

I don’t think so.
And practice and practise are two different words, I believe. A better example would colour/color, or Americanise/Americanize.
