Time for some words.
So, the mouths. I recognise that there have been some mixed opinions on them, mostly that they look “freaky” or “unrealistic”.

My problem however is I don’t see how.

Let me explain: In comics, in fact in most comics today, a mouth with any detail is shown with the tongue visible, and often additionally with either some hint of teeth (Which I wholly agree looks freaky in my style) OR the gullet (usually as simply a black circle of somesort hinting a dark drop at the back of the mouth).

The way I am doing mouths now is the same way that Ctr+Alt+Del, PVP Online, The Devil’s Panties, and even The Simpsons do mouths. I don’t see why this is somehow a problem for everyone, because the only thing I can see that would mess it up is a mistaking of development in comical art for a development towards realistic art.

Whilst it’s true that developments towards realism are often improvements in most comic styles, this is not the case universally and will not be the case later in Remember’s development with me as the artist. I am not the only person with this viewpoint nor am I the only one who sees no problem with this (See the above artistes, as well as most of my social circle).

The mouths are here to stay folks, because they simply aren’t freaky.

  1. The Sons of Mann as a resistance movement? How ironic. :P

Anyway, my argument wasn’t that the mouths showed too much, it’s that they are open very widely, as if the people were continuously screaming. While this is perfectly applicable in the last panel, where Sildyu is stressing her statement, I don’t believe it should be used in every panel.

I would also recommend showing slightly less of the tongue, as seen in those pictures you showcased only the tip is visible (now your characters look as if they have tasted something foul :P). Making the line thickness of the envelope thinker would be welcome as well.

This is just my humble opinion, if I didn’t like your comic I wouldn’t be trying to give my thoughts on how to make it even better. :)

  5. I don’t think this is a development towards realistic art, is all. It’s more of an exaggerated style. But if Lying prefers it this way, that’s fine.
