Page 65 Book 5: Malevolent Machinations
Look deep into my eyes.
I had a lot of fun and consternation (funsternation? That’d be an awesome theme park…) trying to think of how best to display Lying’s mindscape projection, eventually settling on this “top-most level” kind of view, where he’s sectioned off what’s left of the Jannic knowledge from Book 3 and where he keeps everything concerning Avbaroy. It’s sort of the entry page for his knowledge database.
It also neatly shows a whole ton of metaphor I think, in that Lying is not only the center of orbit for entire worlds, but is semitransparent and ephemeral to suggest also how little as an individual he is in relation to them. He’s not a power hungry megalomaniac, he just wants to keep things in proper order.
