Quite possibly the most badass High Elf ever witnessed.
So this is what makes Azul special, the origin of his bizarre personality and abilities: He is, in effect, 22 people (21 different souls and the gestalt personality that is “Azul”).
He has very limited access to most of their abilities when he’s running around as the gestalt version, which possess a proficient degree of melee combat and spellcasting ability, but which focuses on abusing the quantum instability produced by 21 souls existing in the same physical space.
As we know, Incarnum produces raw magic which interferes with the laws of physics, so having as much of it as Azul does causes some fluctuations by sheer virtue of his presence. By leaning on to the fluctuation caused by one of his souls, he can “push” himself in one direction, resulting in his teleportation ability. This is why it’s immune to antimagic, as the only magic involved is what is keeping him functional (which is hard-wired into him as with every other animated construct, golems included).
If necessary, he can switch to using the full manifestation of one of his spiritual components, in this case E’relos, gaining the use of their abilities (which reflects what they would be at the prime of their existence) at the expense of giving full control of things over to one of the 21 souls and losing the ability to teleport freely. Some souls are a bit harder to use for this purpose, divine spellcasters especially, but he can otherwise switch between them with little delay. His main vulnerability whilst doing this however is that his physical form does not change, damage is carried over (as you can see by the facial damage remaining on E’relos even though it means his left ear should be detached).
In case you missed it, Nether Expedition’s second episode went up over the weekend. So far it’s received a much more muted response compared to the first episode, perhaps we can see about changing that? I’ve got a busy few weeks coming up with exams and end-of-year coursework, so we might miss a review or episode here and there but I’m hoping to squeeze things in whenever I get a spare hour. That said, more secrets of Azul still to come, and see you all again Wednesday!
