Page 134 Book 5: The War Diaries
Told you once, told you a thousand times.
Quite a few saw this coming, to which I don’t really blame them. As I’ve said before, noble as Illel’s sacrifice is, as a character and a personage she is simply too much for the Order to assault.
So the obvious question is: Why would the Order be sent to assault her at all?

Distraction and general pot shots so the dragons don’t pop up before too late and the resident badasses have a chance to influence the battle in the meantime?

Quite simply because the people need a heroic group to rally behind instead of the enraged nigh-omnipotent slightly psychotic superbeings that are probably going to ACTUALLY finish the job.
