SO! To elaborate on what Levistus is citing from Mephisto’s test reports here, the flames in hellfire are made from a condensed form of Incarnum, meaning they’re anathema to virtually everything remotely made of matter native to the multiverse at large and even bypass normal resistances to fire. However, if a subject possesses a higher frequency of Incarnum, not unlike a planar shell, the flames have a reduced and eventually negligible effect on them.

This then ties in to how Levistus is holding his own against Asmodeus at all: He’s got a lot more souls than previously, and the way that devils use souls is very closely linked to how gods get their power, making him able to withstand the hellfire from Asmodeus because they’re on fairly equal footing in terms of Incarnum.

Was however very nice to see some rather intelligent theories in the comments, keep up the good work folks!

  2. Did Levistus kill Asmodeus’ wife in this story as well, because that might explain why he isn’t listening.
